Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy Pick Up Multiple Deadly Awards

In an event showcasing and celebrating Indigenous achievement across Australia, last night's 2013 Deadly Awards at the Sydney Opera House saw music legend Archie Roach and Aussie darling Jessica Mauboy pick up multiple gongs for their achievements in human rights and music.

Roach was honoured with a Lifetime Contribution Deadly for Healing the Stolen Generations, the icon musician backing up the achievement with Album of the Year for Into The Bloodstream, a record released in the second half of last year.

Jessica Mauboy also walked away with two awards, winning Female Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for Something's Got A Hold On Me, with film The Sapphires, featuring the performer, awarded Film of the Year, and co-star Deborah Mailman picking up Female Actor of the Year.

Male Artist of the Year went to country music favourite, Troy Cassar-Daley, Street Warriors were crowned as Band of the Year, Yung Warriors taking out Hip Hop Artist of the Year, with the Most Promising New Talent in Music going to Queanbeyan based group Stik n Move.

Additionally, Northern Territory singer Shellie Morris was awarded an Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Cultural Advancement Award for her record Together We Are Strong, recorded in the Yanuwa language of her people.

The Deadlys 2013 will air on SBS ONE on Sunday 14 September at 9.30pm, with repeats on NITV on Wednesday 18 September at the same time.
