Tech-giants Apple are currently being investigated for their negotiations with music labels in the lead up to the launch of their new music streaming program, Apple Music.
The latest service from Apple was announced this week to launch on Jun 30, however attorney's general in New York and Connecticut are now searching the company for potential antitrust violations.
According to the New York Times, the attorney's general are investigating whether Apple pressured music labels, or if the labels have conspired with Apple, to withdraw support from free streaming services such as Spotify in favour of Apple's paid subscriptions.
A spokesperson for the New York attorney general Eric T Schneiderman said of the investigation: "It’s important to ensure that the market continues to develop free from collusion and other anticompetitive practices."
Music labels such as Universal, Sony and Warner Music have been contacted and so far, Universal have been the first to respond, distancing the label from any wrong-doing.
Connecticut attorney general Mr Jensen said they were happy with Universal's response, though they will "continue to monitor" their activities.
