"This is a huge and happy kick forward."
Announced back in February that Josh Pyke would once again be collaborating this year with APRA AMCOS to deliver the fourth annual Josh Pyke Partnership grant, awarding $7500 to an up-and-coming musical talent, this morning we've learned who the deserving recipient of the grant is.
This year, Melburnian singer/songwriter Angie McMahon will be taking home the $7500 lump sum, along with invaluable meetings with Wonderlick Entertainment's Gregg Donovan and Select Music's Stephen Wade.
In a statement, Pyke himself says of McMahon, "Angie McMahon’s song Slow Mover was stuck in my head from the moment I heard it. A massive thanks as always to APRA AMCOS for making the grant such a significant resource for Angie and the previous winners.
"Interestingly enough, this was the third year in a row that a woman has taken out this grant, and the split of men and women in the top 10 scorers was 50/50. The calibre of entries was really encouraging for the state of Australian music."

The grant will see McMahon receive hands-on mentorship from Pyke himself — something that last year's winner Alex Lahey has said was instrumental in getting her foot in the door of the Australian music industry.
McMahon herself says of the win, "I feel extremely lucky and very grateful to be given the opportunity to make the best debut record that I can make.
"I'm so excited to head into the studio, and I can't thank Josh, his team, and APRA AMCOS enough for putting their faith and funds behind my music. This is a huge and happy kick forward. Thanks a million to this team of legends for their incredible vote of support."
