Hip hop and rap lovers have been on edge all week to hear Dr. Dre's long-awaited Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre, the first album released by the producer in 16 years. Inspired by the Straight Outta Compton film, Dre has announced he'll be spending all album royalties on building a shiny new performing arts and entertainment facility for Compton.

As Rolling Stone reports, Dre announced the news on Apple Music's Beat 1 radio, explaining that, "I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album … I've been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn't quite figure out what it was."

The rap pioneer has reportedly been working with Compton's mayor Aja Brown in planning the facility: "We've reached out to Aja Brown quite a few times in the last month or two. She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, 'Boom, this is what we should do.'"

The album premiered yesterday on Apple Music, featuring a slew of rappers and musicians including Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar, Xzibit and post-hardcore's own Craig Owens from Michigan band, Chiodos. The album comes hand in hand with the N.W.A. biopic due out soon, with Dre admitting, "During principal photography, I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album."
