Rumours have swirled around AC/DC’s long-awaited homecoming to Australia, but we might just have the strongest sign yet that a tour announcement is indeed on the way.
Of course, take any speculation with a grain of salt, but this is the closest we’ve come to news surrounding the legendary rock band in a long time. According to 3AW’s Rumour File, it’s been “confirmed” that AC/DC will perform at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for two nights later this year – 12 November and 16 November.
The rumour was revealed yesterday on 3AW’s Breakfast programme with Ross and Russel.
The pair claimed that AC/DC have been trying to lock in dates, which has been difficult as there’s so much happening in Melbourne from October to December, with Metallica, Lady Gaga, and Oasis performing at Marvel Stadium during those months. Plus, in terms of sport, The Ashes will be on during that period.
However, November is seemingly confirmed, with a source reportedly telling the pair that AC/DC will headline the MCG on the nights mentioned above. You can listen to the chat below.
Adelaide Now has also shared its hopes that the band will return to Adelaide and perhaps perform at the bp Adelaide Supercars Grand Final, which takes place from 27 to 30 November. Yesterday, Lenny Kravitz was confirmed to perform at the Saturday event (29 November).

No Australian tour has been announced yet, and no Australian dates are mentioned on AC/DC’s website.
The band recently wrapped a run of North America and is currently touring across Europe. Shows are scheduled in Prague, Berlin, Warsaw, Dusseldorf, Madrid, Imola, Tallinn, Gothenburg, Oslo, Paris, and Karlsruhe before the tour finishes in Edinburgh, Scotland, in mid-August.
Rumours about AC/DC touring Australia have been swirling for months. In January, the Herald Sun reported on all the potential high-profile tours that 2025 could include. The report featured a small note saying that the hard rock exports are “strongly tipped for stadium dates in the last quarter of 2025 as part of their PWR UP tour,” according to “tour insiders.”
Another rumour surfaced in late 2023, when Melbourne’s Cherry Bar owner James Young shared that “a little birdy told me last night that AC/DC will 100% be touring Australia in 2024.” As that tour didn’t happen, perhaps it’s wise to temper expectations and wait for an official tour announcement.
AC/DC haven’t toured Australia since 2015 as part of their Rock Or Bust world tour, supporting the album of the same name from the previous year. That tour featured Phil Rudd on drums for the first time since 1994 and Stevie Young on rhythm guitar, replacing his uncle Malcolm Young, who retired in 2014 and passed away in 2017.
