It’s a good time to be a fan of A Perfect Circle, with the American rock-meets-metal supergroup sharing a surprise new single overnight (27 May).

The new single, Starless, arrives courtesy of Billy Howerdel and Maynard James Keenan ahead of their first European tour in eight years, which begins next Wednesday (3 June).

Like the band’s best songs, Starless is expansive and surprising, opening with an epic guitar and keys intro before Keenan commands with his vocals. The introduction’s melody appears later in the track, with intricate passages displaying the band’s phenomenal musicality.

Starless marks A Perfect Circle’s first single since their 2024 track, Kindred, which is from the group’s joint Sessamta E.P.P.P. with Puscifer and Primus. It’s just the second song the band has released since their most recent album, 2018’s Eat the Elephant.

The single was recorded at Billy Howerdel’s Lankershim Ranch Studio in California. It was written earlier this year, features collaborator Josh Freese on drums, and was produced by Howerdel and mixed by Matty Green (U2, Florence + The Machine).

“Absolutely chuffed to debut this new track on stage in the U.K.,” Keenan commented in a statement, via Blabbermouth. “Of course, I’m excited to release the recordings, but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live.”

Howerdel added, “Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years, but once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along.”

A Perfect Circle are heading to Australia and New Zealand in December. Earlier this month, it was announced that, due to phenomenal demand for their sold-out show at the TikTok Entertainment Centre – formerly known as ICC Sydney – a second and final Sydney show has been locked in at the unique venue, Carriageworks.

It’s likely the most intimate venue the band has performed at in a long time, and fans in Sydney won’t want to miss out.

The new show will take place on Thursday, 10 December: the day before their sold-out night at the TikTok Entertainment Centre. No other dates will be added to the band’s Australia and New Zealand tour itinerary.

For this tour, A Perfect Circle are joined by one of frontman Maynard James Keenan’s other projects: Puscifer. The tour marks the former’s first time in Australia since 2013 and their first visit to New Zealand in 22 years, while the latter last performed in both countries in 2017.

Tickets to all shows are available now.
