UPDATE: A spokesperson has confirmed that Australian artists have been locked in and will be announced in the lead up to the event.

The first performer for the 2022 Logies has been announced, with UK singer Calum Scott scheduled to take to the stage during the event.

It’ll be the first time since 2019 that the event has taken place, and while organisers are promising an “incredible line-up of stars” for the 62nd TV Week Logie Awards, no local performers have been revealed yet.

Considering organisers were quick to highlight the fact that the awards “always” celebrate new and emerging Aussie talent when nominees were announced last month, it’s a little surprising that the first artist announcement only includes an international name, especially given the Gold Coast event is just over two weeks away (June 19).

The 2019 ceremony leaned heavily on Aussie talent, with Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Delta Goodrem joined by US group Why Don't We.

The previous year featured Aussies Kate Ceberano and Conrad Sewell alongside internationals Kelly Rowland, Sam Perry and Jess Glynne, while 2018 boasted locals Mauboy and Casey Donovan as well as US artist Andy Grammer and UK singer James Blunt.

As TV Tonight reports, when Scott was announced, Executive Producer of the TV Week Logies, Melinda Zahra, noted: “I’m so excited to finally share in this announcement. We’re thrilled to have Calum Scott join us to perform at the Logies this year – he’s an absolute superstar.”

TV Week Editor Stephen Downie added: “We’re thrilled to have the enormously talented Calum at this year’s Logies. His sublime vocal skill will undoubtedly have the crowd on their feet.”

Speaking with The Music around the announcement of his November Australian tour last month, Scott opened up about his upcoming album Bridges, how he feels being labelled a ‘guilty pleasure’, the important messages he wants to convey and more. You can read the full chat here.
