Are you a small-to-medium music business in Victoria that needs a bit of a push in the right direction? Then the Victorian Music Development Office’s new Leg Up grants might be just what you’re after.

Announced this week, the VMDO’s Leg Up initiative is a financial program which aims to increase financial literacy and competence amongst the smaller music businesses in Victoria.

The initiative features a handful of facets, including their Grant Stream, which sees the VMDO offering 20 grants of up to $1000 each, specifically to be spent on something that will help you control your finances better.

This includes the likes of hardware, software, advice, or as they explain, “the kind of micro-investment you’re always meaning to make, but always end up using the money for something else.”

Another is their Consultation Stream, which provides free one-hour consultations offered by some of the most established entertainment accountancy and law firms in the Victoria, including Considered Law, Darkwave, The Gild Group, and White Sky.

The consultations are designed to serve as a financial health check whereby discussions on topics of tax planning, royalty accounting, business structure, or any other topics can be explored to as to ensure your business gets the leg up it might need.

Finally, VMDO have also teamed up with XERO to offer 90% of six-month subscriptions to the service for new customers. The latter is available without needing to apply, with details available via the VMDO’s website.

Interested applicants are able to apply for one or both of the streams via the VMDO, with applications open to Victorian-based music businesses only. If you’re interested, be sure to apply before the closing date of 9am on March 3rd.
