In a sudden and unfortunate incident, a stage collapsed during Nigerian rapper and singer Odumodublvck’s set at the annual Nativeland Festival in Lagos, Nigeria. The festival is a celebration of the best of pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports and education in the Nigerian entertainment industry, and has previously and successfully hosted major acts like Skepta, Burna Boy, Odunsi (The Engine) and Tems throughout it’s history.
On the 21st of December – the day the festival was held – all attendees appeared well and excited, eager to catch headliners Central Cee and Odumodublvck in the flesh. However, during the latter’s set, various punters captured footage of the stage collapsing, with what looks like tall pillars of the stage design falling where the artist and his crew stood.

The festival organisers have since taken to social media to address the incident, citing investigations underway to determine how the incident occurred.
“The safety and well-being of our attendees, performers and staff remains our highest priority. Following the incident at the end of last night’s event, we are working closely with the authorities and the technical production contractors to understand what occurred and to address the situation promptly and responsibly. As the promoters of Nativeland Festival, we are fully committed to ensuring accountability and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Several patrons have reported online that this isn’t the first time a structural or organisational incident has occurred at the festival, with many former attendees stating that a stage also collapsed during Nativeland 2019, causing a stampede which led to the shutdown of the festival.
As of writing this article, there have been no reports of injuries or death from the incident. Odumodublvck has not officially commented on the situation but has opted to share some of the highlights from his set at Nativeland pre-collapse on his social media.
