Clairo Performs With Charli XCX & Beabadoobee At Laneway Festival Melbourne

Punters who attended Laneway Festival in Melbourne yesterday (14 February) were treated to some Valentine’s Day surprises.

Three of the festival’s exclusive acts – Charli XCX, Clairo, and beabadoobee – already had the most hyped sets of the day, but nobody expected Clairo to perform with headliner Charli XCX and beabadoobee.

One of indie music’s stars, Clairo carries a quiet star power with her ‘70s chamber pop-inspired album Charm. But it wasn’t a Charm song that brought out Charli. During her set, Clairo went into the Strokes-influenced Sofia, a barnstormer of a track from her 2019 album Immunity. Charli XCX doesn’t appear on the original song; perhaps she loves the song as much as Clairo fans do.

Later, during beabadoobee’s set, Clairo took to the stage so the pair could perform Glue Song—originally a solo song; beabadoobee recorded another version of the song with Clairo. Promoting her Rick Rubin-produced, ‘90s indie rock-inspired album This Is How Tomorrow Moves, beabadoobee brought the energy and yearning to the main stage.

Charli XCX, fresh off brat summer, didn’t feature any special guests during her headlining set. Performing a whopping 13 brat songs, Charli also dropped some deep cuts into her set, such as Track 10, Unlock It, and Vroom Vroom.

Laneway Festival wraps up today (15 February) at Adelaide’s Bonython Park and tomorrow (16 February) at Perth’s Wellington Square.
