The number is in: on Thursday, 9 November, two of Brisbane’s finest music venues, The Triffid and The Fortitude Music Hall, successfully raised over $8,000 for the Music Industry College Scholarship Fundraiser.
The scholarship to the Music Industry College, located on the Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, is a fully funded leg up for a successful applicant for two years. To commemorate the occasion, the fundraiser hosted a special edition of the beloved Brisbane music trivia game Not On Your Rider! alongside stories from a panel of celebrity guests and performances.
On the night, host Aimon Clark (Isolation Trivia, The Creases) was joined by team captains Patience Hodgson (The Grates) and Jeremy Neale (Jeremy Neale, Velociraptor), and special guest panellists Sahara Beck, Tom Busby (Busby Marou), Darren Middleton (Powderfinger) and Luke Henery (Violent Soho).
“A key part of our ethos at Music Industry College is to provide scholarships for young people who want to attend MIC but cannot afford the fees,” Music Industry College Principal Brett Wood said in a statement. “Annually, approximately 25% of our students require fee assistance.
“In many instances, MIC has been a literal lifesaver for these students. Many have come to MIC with low self-esteem and mental health issues, and finding a home at a school dedicated to their passion is key to changing their perspective of themselves and the possibilities that exist.”
Wood continued, “The generous offer of a full scholarship from the team at The Fortitude Music Hall and The Triffid will mean the world to the recipient each year. It will also enrich the experience for that student through the mentoring program that is attached to the scholarship. We couldn't be happier to receive this support, and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with the team and these venues.”
