The team at Dashville, which runs longtime regional festivals such as The Gum Ball, Dashville Skyline, and Thrashville, is embarking on a new creative venture: starting a record label.

Dashville has officially launched its next chapter, recognised as a separate entity and creative co-operative, which they’ve named Dashville Community Records.

With the label, Dashville continues to uphold its “punk ethos” that puts artists first, focusing on “true art” and working together with artists “in some kind of solitude against the AI” as well as the “algorithmic beast.”

At the time of publication, Dashville Community Records is already home to artists including Johnston City, Magpie Diaries, Georgie Winchester, Kingsley James, CJ Stranger, Max Marvell, Dave Wells, and Joey Leigh Wagtail. The team aims to continue supporting artists and local projects, such as Dashville festivals, recording at the Tractor Shed studio, and more.

Current releases from the label include Johnston City’s promotion of the track, Decies Pride, Magpie Diaries’ album Some Kind of View, and CJ Stranger’s latest EP, Folk Songs for End Times

Discussing the launch of the label, Dashville founder Magpie said, “Dashville honestly feels like a legacy held bolt upright by this boundless creative community of music lovers.

“The music has always been the vessel that gets us through. And the people making the music, well, they’re driving the boat. That’s where it all comes from, that’s the inspiration to do what we do.”

Magpie added, “It feels like a pretty natural step forward to be honest, creating our own independent label has been talked about for quite some time, usually late after a gig somewhere, so it’s cool to be finally making it official.”

Dashville Community Records will launch this Sunday, 26 April, at The Grateful Shed – happening as part of this year’s Gum Ball Festival. You can find out more about the newly launched record label here.
