The Australian Women In Music Awards (AWMAs) return to Brisbane/Meanjin this October, and today, nominations for this year’s awards officially opened.
The AWMAs, established in 2018 by AWM founding Executive Producer Vicki Gordon, address gender inequality in the Australian music industry.
If you know a woman or gender diverse individual doing incredible work—“a trailblazer, a quiet achiever, an audio engineer or a producer, a leader”—you are encouraged to nominate them and celebrate the voices within the industry.
Any woman or gender diverse individual in music, whether they’re a musician, songwriter, engineer, journalist, photographer, regional and remote music practitioner, or leader, can be nominated for an award.
The AWMAs have kickstarted a #NominateThem campaign, so to spread the word about the women and gender diverse individuals you admire, share your nomination and encourage your followers to nominate someone worthy of an AWMA Award. You can post tiles to your social media profiles with the hashtag #NominateThem.
Entries close on Friday, 30 May. You can nominate someone you know on the Australian Women In Music Awards website.

This year’s AWMAs and Conference will take place at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on Wednesday, 8, and Thursday, 9 October.
Earlier this month, The Superjesus singer Sarah McLeod was named the new Chair of Australian Women In Music. The position is a natural progression of the Sumo singer’s dedication to advocacy and increasing equity within the music industry. Before being named Chair, McLeod had been actively working with AWM, serving on the Board of Directors for the past year.
As Chair, McLeod will be pivotal in advancing AWM’s mission and focus on addressing the significant gender research gap in the music industry. She will also act to expand the organisation’s impact beyond its awards – the Australian Women In Music Awards – as well as its First Nations Showcase and Conference.
