The Music can exclusively announce the winner of music services company Good Intent’s Greater Good 2024 competition: Brisbane-based punk-rocker Ixaras.

The teenager will receive a $4,000 cash grant, an artist services-supported release package, a recording and production package, a vinyl package, EPK development, a merchandise package, a The Music promo package, a sponsorship package, a poster print and distribution package, accounting consultation, and legal consultation - all together valued at over $30,000 AUD.

In a press release, Good Intent’s Rick Bridgman notes, "With songwriting and performance talent in abundance, well beyond her years, Ixaras is such a truly gifted artist with a clear-cut vision for her craft and future. So excited to see GG feed into her plans and to thrive in '25 and beyond!"

The Greater Good competition kicked off in 2024 with a fresh Industry Assessment Panel from key figures across the wider music landscape to help assess applications and guide decision-making. This panel includes Joe Muller (MusicNSW), Glenn Dickie (Sounds Australia), Jane Slingo (EMC / Young Strangers / VibeLab), Dan Morgan (Astral People), Emmy Mack (RedHook / triple j), Jess Wust (Cult Artists) and Nic Kelly (Hit Network) joining the initiative.

Ixaras herself is stoked about winning the competition, saying, “Being selected for the Greater Good Initiative has been a truly surreal experience. As an independent artist navigating the early stages of my career, having access to this kind of guidance and support is invaluable. Starting out in the music industry as a teenager without existing connections is incredibly challenging, so to be chosen for this opportunity means the world to me. I'm deeply grateful to Good Intent for believing in my potential. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one, and I can't wait to share what's coming next."

The artist is releasing her latest single, This City, this week, on May 16.

Just last year, Ixaras graced the cover of our 5 Aussie Artists To Watch In 2025 cover, thanks to her DIY debut EP, Full Lover Fake Friend.

This year, the shortlist was filled with a varying list of talented artists spanning Australia who each made for a promising winning candidate for the services on offer. Hailing from Melbourne, Italian-Australian rapper DoloRRes was in the running alongside Tokyo-via-Melbourne violinist, vocalist and producer Elle Shimada, 3-piece alternative rock band Belle Haven, electronic/soul/pop outfit Empress, flautist and composer Erica Tucceri, indie-pop artist Holly Hebe, experimental rock-pop duo Mannequin Death Squad and soulful pop artist Velvet Bloom.

Sydney artists shined bright on the shortlist as well, with indie rock band Civic Video, alt-rockers Good Pash, Blacktown rapper and producer Isaac Puerile, soulful singer-songwriters PA777IENCE, RISSA and Ruby Jackson, Gamilaraay electronic composer and vocalist THOM and pop/rock/funk/hip-hop fusion band Thunder Fox leading the way.

Representing Brisbane on the shortlist was, of course, winner 17-year-old indie-pop/rock muso Ixaras and alternative indie-rock three-piece Selfish Sons, meanwhile, Perth was led by alt-rock band LATE 90s and, from Adelaide, we had indie punks Oscar The Wild.

The 20 shortlisted applicants will receive PR, marketing, management consultation, and creative assistance, a photo shoot at Good Loco, a photo/videography studio hire discount, a merchandise discount, and a poster print and distribution discount.
