Adelaide prog-metal trailblazers Dyssidia are only a couple of days out from kicking off their support slot on James Norbert Ivanyi's national tour, and before they set off they've revealed the dark and ominous video clip for thunderous tune Dead Smoke.
The band co-directed the video with filmmakers Andrew Kite and Rebecca Bogart of Against The Grain, the latter of whom also handled visual effects and editing duties for the blackened visual accompaniment to the hectic roller-coaster of a song.
The second single to be released from their 2016 EP Of Delight & Despair, Dead Smoke is a chameleonic, cacophonous and technically adept adventure that seldom relents during its wild and wonderful almost-seven-minute-long run time. According to guitarist Corey Davis, the clip is a visual representation of "a personal struggle for control and order".
"[It depicts] the struggle of growth as an individual in the world around you and the control over your decisions and routines, whether good or bad," he said in a statement. "These ideas and experiences are displayed as visual concepts and shed light on the more brutal aspects of these very humane experiences and how they can consume and asphyxiate you emotionally.

"For this particular song, we wanted to get quite visually conceptual. The song itself has a dark nature to it, and holds meaning to us in a few different ways, so we thought it was best to display these concepts through physical metaphors."
Dyssidia hit the road with James Norbert Ivanyi from this Friday, 4 August, when they'll storm through the Black Bear Lodge together. Next Saturday, they'll assume headline duties for the official launch of Dead Smoke at Jive, at home in Adelaide, and the week after that they're in Melbourne at The Workers Club before finishing off their tour at The Factory Floor for the Sydney Guitar Festival on Saturday 26 August.
Of Delight & Despair was released in November last year, and you can grab it at Dyssidia's Bandcamp page.
