Aeora's top five songs for crying on the dancefloor

There's something really quite liberating about being so overcome with emotion on a dancefloor that you're driven to tears. Sometimes the feelings in the music, or your life, are so palpable and real you don't even have a choice, and you just surrender to the music and let it all out. It might not happen all that often, if at all, but if it does, there's certainly a liberating moment where you completely let go. One artist who agrees with this is Melbourne's AEORA, a singer/songwriter/producer who has just released her brand new single, 'Party All Night'.

Despite what the title might suggest, 'Party All Night' is less about that so much as it is about the frustration of wanting to go out and party, but also having a loved one unable to because of fear or anxiety. The inner conflict that comes with wanting to have fun but knowing someone else can't is evident in Aeora's single, injecting her synth-pop with tension and unease. There's no real release that you might expect to come, because sometimes there is no happy ending or easy resolution. Sometimes people just quite literally can't party all night because they've got some inner turmoil they're facing, and as a friend, the guilt of wanting to let go yourself but wanting to also be there for your friend creates even more stress. It's here that Aeora, with the help of Haxx, shines, taking influence from the likes of Lorde or Robyn as they too put their sorrows into dance music in a way that few really can pull off, but Aeora joins their ranks with this song.

When I first heard this song, I hated it (haha). But then it crept up on me and I completely embraced it. This song is good at embracing a break up. 

Dancing On My Own - Robyn

I think this is one of the most danced to sad songs ever? I don’t know I could be wrong.

Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Station

This song is so perfect right now. I kind of forgot about its existence until last weekend when my friends and I danced and sang to this at 5am in the airbnb living room. 

Say It Right - Nelly Furtado

The beats in this song are so good. I love the vulnerability in her voice and lyrics, and how the production just bangs behind her. 

Sorry - Madonna

I was tossing up between this song and ’New Rules’ by Dua Lipa. But this one is a classic. I think everyone has probably heard this song on the dance floor.
