"It’s meant to make you feel human and alive.”
The new single from Brisbane soul-rock powerhouse SUNFLOWER “came about in a very roundabout way”.
Premiering today via The Music, Better Days is the debut track from the new project, which came together when vocalist Kahlia Ferguson and singer-songwriter Lawson Doyle met at Bluesfest last year.
“Willow and I had just started jamming together and were mucking around this one particular time with different chords and progressions for quite a while, but weren’t getting anywhere,” Doyle said.
“He played this ‘E’ variant chord up the neck and something just clicked for me and I knew where we needed to go from there. We started writing a song focussed on hope - this had always been the goal, to write something positive.
“Willow had the first line and everything moved from there. The whole sentiment of the song is about letting go of your baggage and believing things are getting better. It’s meant to make you feel human and alive.”
With their debut single, SUNFLOWER have already established themselves as a formidable force, which isn't surprising given Ferguson came from The Fergies and Doyle from Port Royal.
