MADE Sydney will be resurrecting a lost San Fran skating nirvana in the heart of Sydney. How is the MADE team going about creating the Hubba Hideout? We worked with an architectural firm who researched the original spot in San Fran and got us the initial plans. Then, with the help of MADE family member Corbin Harris (also our lead skate consultant), we were able to create a 3D rendering and start bringing the Hubba Hideout back to life!
What kinds of Fashion-Skate collaborations can we expect to see at MADE Sydney? We were really careful when selecting the brands that would be included in the event, in collaboration with Parisian label Faith Connexion. We wanted to celebrate brands that vibe with skate culture. MISBHV, Pelvis, MadeMe, Soulland, Emma Mulholland, POMS, Egy-Boy, Double Rainbouu, Places + Faces have all been seen on the backs of skaters (and their girlfriends).
What is the essence of Skate style in your opinion? There are certain clothes that you have to wear when you're skateboarding. For example, skaters wear flatter shoes so that they can feel the board underneath them (the flatter the shoe the more they can feel and therefore the more control they have), long pants act as extra padding in case they don't land a jump, and clothing with lots of stretch help since they are constantly bending down to grab their board. In the past couple of years, the trend of baggy clothing has really come back in the skate world - skaters want to be comfortable.
