‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

Why He Prefers Live Sets Over Studio Recordings

"The challenge is always spill between instruments. There is always compromise to be made when trying to get the best out of each instrument."

Like peanut butter and chocolate, the blues and live improvisation are a natural pairing that will surely be around forever. A torchbearer for Sydney's blues scene, and with two live albums already attributed to his name, Paul Winn's new live LP is sure to delight any modern bluesman. Hoping to capture the smooth atmosphere of his band's live shows, Winn describes the joy behind "hearing the songs warts and all", emphasising the merit of a band that has "nothing to hide behind as opposed to a studio where you can do many takes."

Beyond the task of musical performance, Winn assures us that there are many other stresses that come with recording such an event. "The challenge is always spill between instruments. There is always compromise to be made when trying to get the best out of each instrument. We also lugged a whole PA and ProTools HD rig up two flights of stairs for the gig... That was no fun!"

Although an album filled with improvisation and originality, Winn says that in no way means they are slapdash or messy. "The songs have been performed live many times at gigs and in rehearsal," he shares, before confessing that his favourite is "the opening track... it starts with a lot of energy and although being a very simple blues, I will never get tired of the shuffle groove."
