Meat Loaf Looking For Gig After AFL Snub

28 September 2012 | 2:14 pm | SPA Confidential

Meat Loaf has touched down in Melbourne - but there's nowhere for him to play this weekend

The Australian Football League's decision to opt for local music entertainment for this week's Grand Final has not been greeted as warmly as had expected in some quarters. A source has told SPA Confidential that “global superstar Meat Loaf” has arrived in Australia for the pre-game entertainment, only to be told that he is not needed.

A furious Meat Loaf and his entourage landed at Victoria's Avalon Airport early this morning, but instead of the grand reception he was expecting he was met by Geelong sewage works and a few sheep.

“I don't see how this tin-pot sport hopes to thrive on an international stage if they're knocking back stars like the Loaf,” a source close to the star told us today. “Local artists just don't cut it. In fact, if they want to break the local market they should really consider changing some of the game's rules. Make it more like basketball by having hoops instead of goals and have both attacking and defending teams like gridiron. This aerial ping-pong is a joke!”

Despite the set back, Meat Loaf is apparently is determined not to write off the trip completely, and is looking for another major sporting event to open. A source has confirmed that representatives for Meat Loaf have been in contact with organisers of the Yackandandah under 20 Remote Control Car Regionals, but it is believed that Good Charlotte are favourites are declaring themselves available.
