It's not long now until Make Them Suffer embark on their massive 2025 regional Australia tour.
The tour, alongside the success of their 2024 self-titled album, marks the beginning of a 'new era' for the metalcore five-piece.
Sean Harmanis, Make Them Suffer's lead vocalist—he shares vocal duties with keyboardist and vocalist Alex Reade—tells The Music which songs he is most excited to play live ahead of their 18-stop regional tour.
“Every year, we get bigger, better, and stronger, and this regional tour is no exception. Expect us harder and heavier than ever, with a live show and production to match,” Make Them Suffer said in a press release. Here are the songs Harmanis’s favourite Make Them Suffer songs to play live.

The easiest first answer for this is Doomswitch. That song has awesome moments with the crowds, and it’s got everything that Make Them Suffer loves to deliver in a live setting. It’s got a big sing-along chorus, and it’s got a big one-liner for everyone to scream along to. It’s also got a nice big breakdown at the end, and it’s got a lot of really cool riffs that I think are very great representations of Nick [McLernon’s] unique touch on guitar.
Overall, it’s very fun to play live. I remember the first time we played Doomswitch; we were just blown away by how many people knew all the lyrics, how many people were singing along to it, and just the crowd reaction in general. When we played that song live for the first time, we kind of knew the trajectory we were on and the headspace that we were in. Having Alex in the band was something very special because it had been a while since we’d seen that kind of crowd reaction from a brand new song.
Another one that always feels special onstage to me is Ether. It’s one of the more unique songs in our catalogue, and I was always a bit sad that it never actually made it onto an album. It’s always been a single, but it’s a song people know from us and know us for because of how unique it is within the realm of metalcore and deathcore and that sort of thing.
I love the message of that song, and I love the atmosphere that it brings live. It’s one of the more positive songs that we have in the set in terms of tone of voice. It’s really nice to play music that has a lighter tone amongst all of the darkness that we have in our set, and it always brings a smile to my face being able to play a song that has a lighter energy and looking out to the audience and seeing everyone smiling back at me. That’s always awesome!
Ghost Of Me is another newer song that I really enjoy playing live, it’s just got everything really. I think the melodic moments with Alex singing in the bridge is one of the more emotional and beautiful moments in the set. At the same time, I think it’s a pretty high-energy song but with a very dark, haunting kind of energy. And I love that contrast, I think that’s what Make Them Suffer is all about within the constraints of the same song.
Having some of the heaviest sections in our discography and then having this beautiful sort of crescendo in the bridge with Alex singing and some emotional lyrics, that’s what we’re all about, that dichotomy and pushing the boundaries of those extremes.
Of the new songs that have found their way into our setlists from the new self-titled record, Oscillator has been a standout to play live for me. It feels like there are no rules in terms of what you can ask of the audience. It’s great for jumping, it’s great for pushing your friends around. It’s a super fun and interactive song, but it’s also kind of rappy during the verses. That’s something I don’t always get to do, so it’s really fun to perform in that sense.
But my favourite part of the song is something that we’ve started doing after the second chorus, Alex, Nick and myself will do our best reenactment or interpretation of a Melbourne shuffle. And that’s been super fun! It is probably one of the bits that I look forward to in the set the most, trying to execute basically the Melbourne shuffle after the second chorus. It’s definitely a standout moment onstage for me, and it’s probably one of our only bits of choreographed stage moves in the set. But it’s such a blast to do.
