Have You Heard: Band Of Frequencies

Get to know Sunshine Coast's Band Of Frequencies.

Your sound: Progressive surf roots rock.

Band's name comes from? It refers to the concept that each person vibrates at a certain frequency with the lowest being fear and hate and the highest being love and compassion. Like radio and TV stations, we also broadcast our particular band of frequencies at any given moment. We are just a Band of Freq's doing our thing to raise the collective frequency through sound.

Around since: 2005.

Band's greatest strength? Our collective intuition whilst adventuring through the audible wilderness.

Band's worst gig ever and why? The most recent gig that sucked was when we set up all our gear for an outdoor concert and literally just played the first note before this freak rain squall came in and we had to pack it all up again without even playing a song.

Band's best gig ever and why? At the Billabong house on the North Shore of Hawaii while the Pipeline Masters was on. We were looking out over the ocean jamming out a live soundtrack to the late arvo session as these behemoth waves exploded on the reef about a hundred meters from us. Epic.

Best achievement? Finishing our latest album Rise Like The Sun.

Any gig in history which would it be and why? There are lots, but The Last Waltz concert by The Band recorded live at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco in 1976 would be amazing. Guest artists include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Wood and Ringo Starr all jamming with The Band.

Fave hangover cure? Straight into the ccean for a surf before a breakfast cook-up and a Bloody Mary.

Fave WA bands? Tame Impala, Mellifluous, John Butler Trio, Sleepy Jackson, The Waifs, Pendulum, Grace Barbe, Beeva Feeva, Rhibosome, Flow Dynamics.

Fave bands from your state? Kooii, Laneous & The Family Yah!, Kingfisha, OKA.

Biggest bands you've supported? Donovan Frankenreiter, John Butler Trio, Gotye, Xavier Rudd, Ash Grunwald, Little Bushman, The Black Seeds.

Our ultimate groupie would be… an heiress to a fortune of billions who wants to take us all around the world on a massive yacht (or two) to sail, surf, dive, make doco's and record albums.

Fame for your band would mean…coming to West Oz to surf and play gigs!

Any members play in other bands? We all play in Afro Dizzi Act, Mark Henman plays drums in Numbers Radio, and OJ plays in Brazillian band The View From Madellines Couch and OKA part-time. The last time I was in West Oz I was playing with Banawurun and before that with the Resin Dogs on their More album.

Any releases out? Our first album Sol Train is available online and through Vitamin Records. Our single, Free Again, is available online and our latest single/EP All I've Found will be available at our live gigs and nowhere else as it is a limited edition.

Any releases on their way? Rise Like the Sun is out October 8 through Vitamin.
