His first ever national tour hits Fremantle and Margaret River this weekend..
South African born, Australian raised rapper KG isn't messing around when it comes to his politically-charged brand of hip hop. Leaning on an old school style of the genre, updated with lyrics that tackle a variety of social issues today, it harkens back to the likes of forefathers such as Ice Cube and Public Enemy with a fierce delivery that pulls no punches.
He's about to kick off his first ever national tour celebrating latest single Black Boy, playing in Fremantle (event details HERE) and Margaret River (event details HERE) this weekend, and we sent him a few questions to find out a little more to help you get acquainted before you head along.

My name is KG, which comes from my full name Kagiso. The name is really common in South Africa and means peace, my friends and family back home used to call me KG. I feel like my name is paying homage to them and my culture. Plus I love Jay Z so I had to be KG hahaha. I am simple dude, I love all things hip hop, working in the community and using my music as a tool to connect with disadvantaged youth. I just love performing and creating meaningful music.
What kinds tunes we talking?
Boom bap hip hop with choppy flows, big hooks and a modern feel.
Production/writing process:
I am definitely a mood guy when it comes to creating music. I’ve gotta be in the right space for inspiration and that’s when I can really create some epic shit.
Can you tell us about ur new single black boy?
Black Boy is based on a true story. It’s an actual event that happened to me in primary school. The film clip touches on my own personal experiences of racial profiling and how as POC we’ve gotta overcome that ignorance in others and strive for greatness.
Any shows coming up?
I am embarking on my first ever national tour with the first stop in Fremantle this Friday and Margaret River on Saturday night. I’ll also be touring internationally in South Africa later in the year, supporting a well-known South African DJ, can’t wait.
TOUR DATES:
What does the rest of the year have in store for you?
Releasing my debut EP, touring the country and working with some amazing young people on an educational hip hop project.
Where can we hear more of your music?
