What makes your event stand out from other festivals? The Lost Lands is a two-day festival uniquely programmed for families to experience it all together. There's an incredibly diverse music line-up and our Arts & Wonder program will inspire and excite audiences of any age.
What’s improved for your next event? This year we've adopted ambitious sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of the festival. We've also expanded our breadth of music programming, enhanced our family-friendly facilities and created more interactive spaces to explore in our Arts & Wonder program.
Favourite festival ‘Do you remember when…’ moment? Running the first Falls Festival in Marion Bay, Tasmania, back in 2004. I grew up in Tasmania and it was amazing to create something so significant in a state that was starved of touring music at the time. The first one was particularly special.
Which artist – living or dead – would you like to have backstage drinks with? Vicky and Donna from The Waifs. They seem like my kind of people and heaps of fun! We’ve all got kids, so we’d probably enjoy a drink and a chat at the end of the day. Plus they tell a damn good story…
How is the festival landscape changing? The landscape has changed a lot in the last five to ten years. A lot more boutique experiential-based festivals are providing festival lovers with a wide variety of choice in often incredible locations.
Is there more pressure to create an “Instagrammable” festival? There is certainly an interest from audiences to share their festival experience online. Festivals by nature are colourful, visually rich experiences that lend themselves to the medium quite easily. It doesn't really change the way we do things.
How do you go about ensuring your festival is a safe space? The Lost Lands is an incredibly chilled and welcoming event. It's a smaller festival, offering BYO food and drinks and a low-key bar. It’s such a family-focused atmosphere that the crowd self-moderates.
