"There’s chaos..."
"It’s probably been pushing two years since we actually recorded this EP," Byfield says, matter-of-factly.
“Our bass player Brian [Mitra] runs Fremantle Recording Studios, so we recorded it with him a few years ago and it’s sort of been, not dragging along, but taking its time. Musicians get stoned and chill and you get a bit of a push from the rear, and then it happens. It’s all good! We really enjoyed being in the studio, and if we got a signed deal and they gave us $100,000, we’d be keen to spend months in the studio.
"Time is money though, we just had to cull [20 songs down to five]. We decided to release Body Lies [as the first single] because it’s the poppiest, easy-listening song on the EP, and we do have a couple more like that, but we seem to be going down a grungier path now. Indie-rock grunge. We want to release an album next year.”
Body Lies and new single Drunk Sex – two songs from the EP – have been the subjects of two separate music clips for the band, and they just finished the latter a couple of weeks ago. With an invitation to anyone who was interested to join in the making of the clip via Facebook post, there was definitely potential for it to get out of hand. Thankfully for Byfield, the day of filming couldn’t have gone any better. “I’ve never been involved in something like that, it was so cool. The guys in charge of it were just so professional, everything was set, you didn’t have to do anything, we were just told, ‘Ok, we’re gonna do this now, off you go’.

"We had a lot of unpaid extras come in... There’s a bit of violence, there’s drunk sex."
"The whole day was easy, everyone was just in a good mood, everyone was cool, all the extras – we had a lot of unpaid extras come in and it was just the best day... There’s a bit of violence, there’s drunk sex, there’s chaos and heaps of sexy women, it’s really cool. It’s a pretty easy song to come up with a film clip for. When it all comes together it’s going to be crazy.”
The band are gearing up to head on their maiden tour around the country in support of the EP. Byfield “went to Melbourne once as a kid”, but he’s never been travelling for music-related purposes. “It’ll be a different thing entirely,” he chuckles. He and the rest of the group are already looking ahead, with an album well and truly in the works. “All the songs, bar one and two are actually tracked. May, June and July we’ll probably spend a bit more time on those tracks and we should have everything done by the end of the year. This album is gonna be heavier, grungier, and we’ve already got plans to go electronic. I do dance music at home and Shaun [Martin, guitar/keys/vocals] gets involved too... It’s gonna be one of those albums that leads into what we want to do next time.”
