To mark five years since the contentious lockout laws were introduced in Sydney, Keep Sydney Open is throwing events across the state to show its ongoing support for venues, artists and promoters.

Starting this weekend at Chippendale's Freda's with sets from the likes of Fishing and HI LIFE, future events are scheduled on 24 February in Wollongong, 1 March in Byron Bay and 4 March in Bathurst.

“The lockouts were originally a Sydney issue, but the Berejiklian Government’s policies have decimated venues and culture across the State," Keep Sydney Opens Tyson Koh said.

"These events are a chance to show support for some great venues, promoters and artists and remind everyone that despite the current climate, it’s important to get out there and support our cultural industries!”

It comes as thousands are expected to attend a rally in Sydney's Hyde Park on Thursday to protest the NSW government and its widely-panned festival policy, set to commence next month.
