The band’s large and devoted following demonstrate that they are clearly one of those acts that fulfil a niche and give people exactly what they are looking for.

The band play their tracks like a well-oiled machine and get a little bit mushy. And everyone loves them for it.

Black Isn’t Black closes the encore, complete with projections of a trampolinist. With the lyrics “Placed on this planet, darkness at the door” hanging in the air, the audience dopily exits into the clear night air.

The Milk Carton Kids provide one of those rare examples where you realise that your parents are actually going to better gigs than you.

Its location, setting and even weather makes this festival exceptional and an unmissable addition to next year’s calendar.

Alias Ruby Blade is a fantastic and confronting film, well worth checking out at its encore screening at ACMI on Sunday 2 June.

It is this buzz that everyone takes home as they stumble out of the lane and are swallowed again by the big bad CBD.

While country music may not appeal to everyone – and The Hillbilly Killers are very country – the band is tight, entertaining to watch and they put on a great show.

The damage is already done, with the end of the set marked by half-hearted applause and three seconds of awkward silence that sees everyone exit en masse as soon as the GTFO music comes on.
