All in all, it’s a dull album that you want to love but really can’t.

Many will despise it – but it’s arguably the most fun Autechre have ever provided on record.

It’s the only time he’s managed to make an album that even comes close to showing his eclectic talents. He just got a bit lost in the fray.

“I’m just going to make it available and let people talk about it. That’s really how all the best music spreads anyway. I’ll just have to hope people want to talk about it."

The sheer muscle of the band’s performance is unbalancing. While somewhat abstract and romantic on record, PVT’s live aesthetic is one of stomach-clenching grunt.

“I could stand on the stage, alone – without anybody or anything – and tell the story and it would be effective and entertaining and nobody would complain."
