Live Review: Rainbow Chan lets it all out in 'Let Me' video

We have fallen in love with Sydney-based vocalist and producer RAINBOW CHAN all over again, thanks to this cathartic video for her track, 'Let Me'. Simple and powerful, the video uses experimental camera work and choreography to visually convey the painful emotions so apparent in her music. Of course, Chan remains the star of the show, pouring out her heart for us to marvel at on screen.
The video, directed by Hyun Lee, is the most stripped-back we've seen from Chan. She lets the lyrics speak for themselves, pulling down the facade until the only thing left is her body. The close up shots of her face are totally unadorned and expressionless, as if exhausted by the emotion of ending a long-term relationship.
"Let me walk out the door/ My head held high, say goodbye to you, baby/ Let me go on my own/ Know that I've grown from how you've hurt me," she pleads, with blurry vocals and rich, velvety synths. The repetitive lyrics emphasise both the acceptance and the defiance that Chan sings about. The track is a portrait of a woman determined to hold onto her integrity through the complicated experience of a relationship breakdown.

On this track, Chan proves that she's got nothing left to prove. She lays down any pretentiousness and lets the audience get tangled up in the music and the raw emotions she has created. It's a beautiful mess.
