Live Review: The video for Oyinda's 'Never Enough' is a dark fantasy

OYINDA has always had a mysterious aura about her and she channels that to the max in her brand new video for 'Never Enough' that just came out.

OYINDA has always had a mysterious aura about her and she channels that to the max in her brand new video for 'Never Enough' that just came out.

Often artists don’t have much of a say in their music videos, because they don’t know how to make a video, because their record label says so, there’s a lot of reasons but none of these apply to Oyinda. ‘Never Enough’ is not only self-styled but self-directed and you can tell. The music and the visuals go together seamlessly as if they were created as one, which considering they both came to be within the same mind is a real possibility.

Oyinda cites her inspiration for the video as being taken primarily from Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ music video saying “the strength of that performance made me want to do a seamless piece too, but in my own way.”

In her own way indeed, the video is far darker than ‘Single Ladies’ with dynamic visuals shot in sharp noir-esque black and white. The entire piece is shot with Oyinda in the centre of a ring of old television sets displaying nothing but white noise. The video plays with light, less of it, more of it, focused in different areas following along with the music. It’s a fascinating accompaniment to a great song, but don’t just take our word for it.

Oyinda’s EP, Restless Minds, is due to be released in June on Blood and Honey records.
