Album Review: The Metronomes - Going Somewhere

"With this superb new collection, their time has come."

In a month of curiously seismic retro/new wave shiftings, we have farewelled Alan Vega (Suicide), become obsessed by Stranger Things and now have the first new material in 12 years from Melbourne electronic minimalists The Metronomes.

The time-keeping tool that gives them their name (and their modus operandi) appears often without sounding gimmicky, and their analogue synths and crankily metered guitars are entrancingly Kraftwerk-ian but with a distinctly '80s Aussie twang. It's as if the last 36 years was something that happened to everyone but this one band. With this superb new collection, their time has come.
