The annual winter fest Dark Mofo is bringing the crowds and San Cisco just happened to be playing the night before it all began. The ever-lovely Thelma Plum got things started, playing to a somewhat reserved crowd before handing over to San Cisco to get the party started.
Returning to Tasmania for the first time in two years, San Cisco were ready to back it up after playing at Club 54 in Launceston the night before. As far as gigs at The Republic go, this was one of the tamer ones with things not really heating up until quite late in the evening. The Republic is notorious for rowdy party-goers throwing drinks around and pushing their way through the crowd, but this gig was quite the opposite. Even when the band started to play their classics such as Too Much Time Together, SlowMo and Hey Did I Do You Wrong?, the crowd was polite and somewhat reserved, dancing in small groups and everyone making sure they kept to themselves. During Fred Astaire the crowd picked up a little, with lead singer Jordi Davieson mentioning how impressed he was that the crowd knew all the words, not just the chorus.
Despite the rather tame feel to the night, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and it was a refreshing change to be at a gig where people were just happy to keep to themselves without being too rowdy. The mess afterwards was minimal and the place cleared out quite quickly. Despite being somewhat underwhelming, they put on a good show and the people of Hobart anticipate their return.
