Canadians seem to at times have an affinity with Australians and on the folk scene there are some wonderful artists like Cousins deserving of some serious recognition. She creates a moody landscape that can vary from a rocking force, as on The Darkness, to melting into a languid ballad on Go First, which takes a long time to get to its point but is worth every second. If you like your folk music subtle and emotive, this album is worth a listen. Finally, someone who can give Aimee Mann a run for her money.
