They slip into dreariness pretty easily
At first the leisurely patience with which Perth’s Rainy Day Women let their songs unfold is refreshing, the sparse Mars opening the album nicely. Quickly though, that niceness just turns into white noise over the first half. Then there are the lyrics, stuff like “all my friends think I am easy/I just want a girl that gets me” delivered with an astoundingly straight face. The album is begging for sparky pop riffs, some gutsier vocals – something. This kind of comes towards the end with Ain’t It Time, but they slip back into dreariness pretty easily.
