"A lack of evolution, of follow-through, and of exploration disappoints."
UK doom collective OHHMS return with a new EP comprising of just two tracks running around half an hour of listening, an odd choice that feels gimmicky, and fails as there’s no through-line with their songwriting.
First track, The Anchor, runs through about three or four disparate song structures strung together with no flow other than key signatures and basic genre tropes. If you dig doom, there’s stuff here to like, but once it gets past the first six promising minutes of atmospheric drone it devolves into posturing. A lack of evolution, of follow-through, and of exploration disappoints.
