"Makes a lasting impression."

More Lucy Dacus More Lucy Dacus

The second album from Richmond, Virginia's Lucy Dacus is a great follow-up album from an artist who only released her debut about 24 months ago.

Caling to mind a hybrid of indie greats such as Sharon Van Etten, PJ Harvey and Cat Power, Dacus has a pleasingly low vocal tone. She's in her early 20s, but maturity permeates throught Historian and this is often thanks to Dacus' simple, lo-fi, laidback approach. Everything from the production and playing to the songwriting and lyrics ensures a wholesome listening experience.

The best tracks include opener Night Shift, a sultry song about first love/heartache with fuzzed-out bass closing it out with a rockin' touch. Then there's the rambling odyssey that is Yours & Mine, the soaring Body To Flame and the sombre Next Of Kin

There's a quiet confidence on display here that ensures Historian makes a lasting impression. Dacus is an already excellent artist who will surely only get better.
