Melbourne techno legends SLEEP D, in collaboration with fellow aficionados ALBRECHT LA'BROOY, have released an atmospheric new track ‘From 50’.
The track blends the respective styles of Sleep D and Albrecht La’Brooy creating something that is truly beautiful. A subtle yet building oscillating acid bass coupled with atmospheric samples takes you on a psychedelic journey. Perhaps it’s the distant birdcalls in the back round or the cool 909 groove, but this track brings to mind the calmness and serenity of a rainforest. It’s a deeply nostalgic vibe perfect for those Sunday morning kick ons.
Contrary to their name Sleep D have, as always, been taking leaps and bounds. In the last 12 months, they made several releases and played extensively across Europe even playing live on Amsterdam’s revered Red Light Radio.
Back home in Victoria they helped send off Melbourne’s infamous club Mercat, played massive festival sets on the main stages of Strawberry Fields and more recently Pitch music festival. The huge turnouts and prime time slots back to back with artists like Midland and Leftfield are a testament to the love the Frankston boys receive.
It’s genuinely exciting to see quality local techno receiving huge support here in Australia. What is even better, is too see it recognised internationally in the European Meccas of techno music. It demonstrates the strength of our scene and it’s ability to stand up to it’s more developed counter parts else where in the world.
