Adelaide based hip hop label Trexon Music's latest release is a high energy collaboration between LORD BRAVO, PRONTO and CIDI 5K titled 'Finesse'.
The bars on this one are a level up. The lyricism and use of voice as an almost rhythmic instrument is telling of good trap music. It creates a synergy between the vocals and the beat giving off a rich, whole sound. Arguably, it is trap artists ability to do this effectively that sets them apart, considering the simplicity and ease of availability of many trap beats.
Trexon Music is an independent record label representing some of Adelaide's hottest rap talent including Cidi 5k, Lord Bravo, Jayco and Dut Boll. What started out as a rap collective recording music in bedrooms has transformed into fully fledged label seeking to shape the future of Australian hip hop.
Gabriel Akon, founder of fellow Adelaide hip hop label Playback 808 once told me, "Adelaide is the capital of Australian hip-hop." At the time I laughed, but now I'm starting to believe it. Although it would be ignorant to compare the Hilltop Hoods to 'Finesse,' they did make an impact on the Australian scene, and they do hail from Adelaide. We've also seen Adelaide Alumni Allday and Tkay Maidza achieve international success paving the way for whole new generation of rappers, that in my opinion, have something much more meaningful to share.
