Live Review: ALPHAMAMA returns with 'Stranger in Asia'
Sydney feminist icon moves in a new direction, drops latest tune 'Stranger in Asia' early, after having performed it live as part of Sydney Women's March
Feminist icon ALPHAMAMA dropped her newest single a little bit earlier than anticipated in wake of her powerful performance at the Sydney Women's March last month. Named as one of our artists to watch in 2016, she has certainly not disappointed with her latest single, 'Stranger in Asia,' the second track off her forthcoming EP Honey Fire.
The EP represents a totally new direction for the singer, who's style is continually evolving. Alphamama's tune has a distinct futuristic trap style and deals with other-worldly feminine themes. The artist goes deep with this tune, dealing with universal issues of identity crisis, like growing up and suddenly feels out of step with where you've come from.
The slow and subtle bell infuses a real Balinese hip hop vibe throughout 'Stranger in Asia.' The slow percussion works well with the contemporary trap style drum and clapping percussion which are the real foundation for the track. But Alphamama's rich and soulful vocal layering is the crowning jewel, giving the track a distinct RnB feel.
