Album Review: Leon Russell - Life Journey

As a celebration of his 72nd (no less!) birthday, Leon Russell's Life Journey is without a doubt a humbling reflection of the man's years. Performing for half a century, Russell has collected a fitting anthology of tunes. Bringing but two of his own compositions to the piece, Big Lips and the closer, Down In Dixieland, the remainder sees Leon perform the songs dear to his heart. Georgia On My Mind is a shining example of the man's soulfulness and also shows a gentler side to his keys playing, an enlightening contrast to that which made his name.
