Live Review: Nightwave kicks off a mammoth 2018 with an EP and a guest mix

Few have had a career as fruitful and as versatile as Glasgow's NIGHTWAVE (aka Maya Medvešek). She's one of those producers who is unafraid of tackling new sounds, new genres and new collaborations.

She first started making waves in the tail end of the 00's, with a series of dubs under her old alias 8Bitch, and then continued her run with a series of EP's on labels like Seed and Slit Jockey. She then changed her name to Nightwave, returning strong with releases on Fortified Audio and more. She would then go on to do vocals for fellow Glasgow producer Rustie's single, 'Glass Swords'.

After this, she continued to self release sounds on her own label Heka Trax which has previously released music from the likes of TC4, Carpainter, Blastto and more.

In more recent news, she's slated to release her EP, Sanctuary, on Fool's Gold today, an EP with sounds that have been in the works for a bit, but it's definitely been worth the wait.

Our first taste of the EP, 'Limelight', is a euphoric house jam, accentuated by Nightwave's vocals and penchant for intimate songwriting that really knows how to get you to move. She's a producer with immense skill for creating anthemic, lasting singles.

The second single was the title track, 'Sanctuary', something a little more subdued but all the more complex in its construction. Blending stabs of bass in with lush vocal harmonies, she really knows how to create sounds that may seem jarring, but they're actually incredibly apt and create something new altogether.
