Album Review: Georgi Kay - Origins

StarStarHalf Star

"We know she's more talented than this."

The career of Perth's Georgi Kay has been on one serious upward trajectory, so there was always a chance of a downturn.

She's won awards, acted in Top Of The Lake, and had a single used by Kia. The problem with Origins' five songs is they all sound designed for more TV ads. There's nothing wrong with the synth-driven pop — Kay's voice is great and there are some fine melodies. But it plays things safe with very little production creativity and nothing to set it apart from other synth-pop acts. We know she's more talented than this.
