Fanning Dempsey National ParkLast night (1 August), the inaugural The Music Sessions went down at The Outpost Bar in Brisbane/Meanjin with Fanning Dempsey National Park and Richard Kingsmill.
On a special night that saw just 150 punters hear Bernard Fanning's (Powderfinger) and Paul Dempsey’s (Something For Kate) zany debut collaborative album, The Deluge, a day before its official release date, fans were reminded of the glorious power of music and the album experience.
After the first side of The Deluge was played – on vinyl, no less – The Music Sessions went into a Q&A hosted by Richard Kingsmill. Fanning Dempsey National Park then delved into the making of The Deluge, working together to create an album that subverted expectations, the influence of Bob Hawke, and more.
The duo then launched into playing the second half of the album before getting to a fan-led Q&A. Does a listening party get much better than that?
“This is such an exciting new idea from The Music,” Fanning said upon announcing The Music Sessions last month. “It’s such a rare opportunity these days to sit down and have a dedicated listen to a whole record. Then, to be able to do it with fans there listening with us for the first time and being quizzed on the process by The King himself: It’s a winning combination.”
