The talents of Dungen's Gustav Ejstes and Reine Fiske, and Woods' Jeremy Earl and Jarvis Taveniere flow so naturally here together, it's hard to believe they haven't collaborated before.
Myths 003 is the longest of the Marfa Myths series with the feel, and nearly the length, of a proper album. According to Taveniere, it was greatly influenced by the surrounding setting of Big Sur, California, and for the most part it sounds like they had a pretty good time there.
Turn Around is the most obvious FM-friendly fodder, a carefree toe-tapper with an elegant arrangement, but while the vocal pieces are passable, it's the loose-knit jams that really take you places. Marfa Sunset is a spooky woodland wonder, which conjures all kind of wild mental images. The rambling epic of Saint George is a career highlight for both bands, while Morning Myth with its descending harps and distant chanting is a mystical mover that's like a call to the faithful from afar.
If sonic wizardry like this doesn't compel you to go camping in ancient forests, nothing else will.
