"The ingenious use of props and SFX throughout keeps both the laughs and ‘tender bits’ ticking over."
You have to wonder why Death In Bowengabbie is even part of MICF. Not that it doesn't have its utterly hilarious moments but it's so poignant and has such obvious heart. Indeed, it's like a one-man version of a 'quirky' Aussie flick from 1996, complete with country town, a cast of kooks and an eccentric boy/girl through line. Bryce Youngman's embodiment of Caleb Lewis' bittersweet script is classically thespian, rather than merely comic, and the ingenious use of props and SFX throughout keeps both the laughs and 'tender bits' ticking over.
