An interesting and unique collection.
Prominent Massive Attack producer Neil Davidge has created a dark, atmospheric world with his debut solo release. There are odes to his aforementioned collaborators – particularly the intro of first track, Slo Light, and Sensor. But this isn't a Mezzanine or Heligoland rehash. Home From Home and Sleepwalking are tender, yet haunting, while Gallant Foxes is a quirky grower. The album switches up its sound continually, dishing out orchestral dance (Riot Pictures featuring Sandie Shaw) to the poetic closer, Forty Days In The Wilderness, with hints of Gil Scott-Heron laced throughout its lyrical construction. An interesting and unique collection.
