Larger than life comedy legend Chris Tucker had fans in stitches last night in his long-awaited, first stand-up tour of Australia. The sold-out event at The Star Event Centre saw the Hollywood funny man, who has been lighting up the American stand-up circuit for over 20 years, poking fun at his recent $12 million dollar tax scandal, joking “that's the last time I let Wesley Snipes help me out with my taxes!”. Tucker is currently facing foreclosure of his $6 million mansion (that comes complete with a pirate-themed basement with its own pirate ship), and has been forced to sell off a fleet of luxury cars, which lends the question: is the only reason he's gone back to stand-up to help pay off his astronomical debt? But really, who cares what his motives are; it is just great that the Rush Hour star has finally made it Down Under. Highlights of the show included his stories of his friendship with the late Michael Jackson, with hilarious recounts of visiting Neverland where giraffes would just casually walk past the window, and impersonations that had the crowd wetting their pants and wiping away tears. Prior to Tucker, Terry Hughes warmed up the crowd with around 20 minutes of non-stop side splitting laughs, poking fun at the audience, and making reference to his financial woes and how he has resorted to dating homeless women because “you can just drop them off wherever you want”. The Australian tour will continue onto Perth for its final shows.
