"Queensland songwriter Brad Butcher certainly doesn’t take too many risks, nor does he hit too many emotional highs on Jamestown."

More Brad Butcher More Brad Butcher

Queensland songwriter Brad Butcher certainly doesn’t take too many risks, nor does he hit too many emotional highs on Jamestown.

His style is a calm and measured approach but too often that’s a recipe for songs blending together without enough dynamism across the 11 tracks. Occasionally his songs do excel, particularly the new single, Two Women, a bluesy diversion from the balladeer approach that permeates most of the album, and the title track, which hits a rock’n’roll/bluegrass vibe, saving the album from becoming invisible in the middle of the road.
