Aaron Gocs: Classic Stitch-Up (MICF)

"... As true blue as Hard Yakka stubbies and VB tins."

Aaron Gocs is as true blue as Hard Yakka stubbies and VB tins. He’s got a mullet that could choke Hulk Hogan, he’s sporting some very fetching hi-vis workwear and he’ll never lose his watch. It’s tattooed on.

Gocs’s even got a barbie on stage, along with all the necessities: tray full of snags, a loaf of Coles brand white bread, a tower of napkins, a pair of click-clacks and some dead horse (from Masterfoods, of course). Gocs offers us all one but it turns he’s been warned not to turn it on or we’ll be neck-deep in firefighters. Classic Stitch-Up.

It’s a good name for Gocs’s show, it sounds like he’s been on the end of a few. Over the next hour, he takes us through a few things in his life, paying particular attention to things like bringing up his two daughters solo, living in the ‘burbs and the kind of people you meet working unskilled labour.

His comedic style could be described as ‘pub chat’ and like ol’ mate holding up the bar sometimes Gocs gets a bit turned around or long winded, especially around the middle of his set. But for the most part, he's an affable bloke swathed in fluoro hues that's just trying to make it to his next chokky milk.

Aaron Gocs presents Classic Stitch-Up till 22 Apr at The Greek Centre, part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
