One Night With: The 2 Bears
The UK house duo take us through a night on the decks ahead of their Australian tour.. The 2 Bears are British producer/DJ duo Raf Rundell and Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), who've been traipsing around the globe delving into a variety of styles including house, hip hop, 2-step, garage and more, and have been frequent visitors to our shores since their 2009 formation. They're back down under over the Australia Day weekend, and given they're wealth of knowledge in the dance music realm, we thought we'd find out what a perfect night may consist of for them behind the 1's and 2's. Grab their latest album The Night Is Young HERE, get learned on smooth-as-silk house sets below, and check their tour dates down the bottom: Numero Uno – What are we starting with? We quite often start with a track called Soul Train by Soundstream. It's sonically solid, it has a big train horn at the beginning. It's a simple disco-nagger that grows and grows. A good one to set the tone. The crowd is warming, it’s time

Interview: Vic Mensa
Vic Mensa tells of being struck by 15,000 volts, and racial issues in the US ahead of his Laneway appearance.. Vic Mensa had a breakout 2014, kickstarted by his huge single Down On My Luck, along with being apart of/starting the Save Money collective with Chance The Rapper and Joey Purp. He's in Australia this month appearing at the Red Bull Music Academy x Future Classic Stage at St Jerome's Laneway Festival and a couple of sideshows (dates down the bottom), and Liam Apter was fortunate enough to have a candid chat with the young star on the rise: Hey Vic how's it going, where are you at the moment? I’m in Chicago, my hometown. Cool let's start there - I wanted to asked about how when Lollapalooza was on in Chicago a few years you got electrocuted by like 15,000 volts! Is that true? Yeah man. I got fucking shocked when I was trying to get into Lollapalooza and I fell like 30 foot off a bridge because I was shocked by like 15,000 volts. And I performed at Lollapalooza that next year an

Premiere: Aela Kae - We Come Back
Aela Kae's latest single We Come Back is the perfect way to start Monday.. When I last wrote about Aela Kae's track Pure Zone I spoke of the sense of quiet embedded within her music. We Come Back takes cues from Pure Zone but showcases a delicate strength not seen before with the airy vocals and frisky drumbeat. Much like Pure Zone, We Come Back never becomes too loud but the differences appear in the elemental nature of the track seducing your attention. And that discreet difference is what makes We Come Back so soothing and enticing. It doesn't reveal itself in one listen but over time its layered beauty appears. A perfect track to start a dreary Monday if ever there was one.  We Come Back is the first song off Aela Kae's upcoming EP Reverie, and Aela Kae is also part of the same management group, Breaknative, as wunder-artist JOY. so you won't want to miss this EP.    Follow Aela Kae: FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM

New Music: Alison Wonderland - U Don't Know feat. Wayne Coyne
Alison Wonderland employs Miley Cyrus-collaborator Wayne Coyne on a new single.. While this is only a teaser of the full track, it's worth a blog post anyhow based on a few things. U Don't Know is the first track Alison Wonderland has released since last year's killer Calm Down EP, which featured a heap of respected and loved producers like Lido and Carmack, alongside Alison dropping bombs in the form of I Want U, Lies and Cold. This new effort also features The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, who generation-i most likely know following last year's dalliances with pop queen Miley Cyrus. Alison Wonderland had a barnstorming 2014, with huge sold-out warehouse tours and once again slayed the new year festival season, and 2015 sees her making her US debut at a little festival called Coachella. She also signed to legendary electronic label Astralwerks in USA, home to deadmau5, The Chemical Brothers, Empire of the Sun, Duke Dumont and more. They're obviously liking what they're hearing, and so ar

New Music: Slum Sociable - Anyway
Welcome to the washed out lo-fo jazz-hop world of Mordialloc, Victoria-based duo Slum Sociable.. Dubbed as Mordialloc’s filthiest animals in the presser I received about Slum Sociable, that is unfortunately about all I'm able to tell you at this juncture. The first thing it did was introduce a place known as Mordialloc to me, which I now know is in Victoria, and whatever goes on out there has produced an absolutely killer piece of lo-fi psychedelic-pop. It first appeared on influential UK website The Line Of Best Fit, and it's not hard to see why - the trip hop elements that have become synonymous with the Bristol area of the world abound on Anyway, and instantly stamp them as an act to watch in 2015. You can do just that when they make their live debut at Sugar Mountain Festival in a couple of weeks, but until then chuck this one on repeat: Follow Slum Sociable: FACEBOOK / WEBSITE / TWITTER
